House Bill 280 Awaits Governor’s Signature

Governor Deal has vetoed similar legislation in the past, but changes to House Bill 280 have made the bill more “receptive” to Deal.

House Bill 280 would allow anyone with a concealed weapons permit to carry firearms on public college and university campuses, with exceptions that include dormitories, fraternity and sorority houses, and buildings used for athletic events. On-campus child care centers would also be excluded, as would areas on some college campuses where high school students attend class.

I’ve reached out to Tifton’s local college, ABAC, to get their thoughts and feedback on this potentially becoming law and how they plan to deal with the issue if it does.  If or when I get a response, I’ll update this post with their remarks.

Below is a video from WRBL with Columbus State University students’ reactions to the passing of the bill.
