Larry Lawrence, currently Tifton’s chief financial officer, has been appointed as the acting city manager by the city council. This decision was made during a called meeting on Monday, following Emily Beeman being placed on administrative leave since July 19. Lawrence will continue his duties as CFO while also taking on the responsibilities of the city manager. In addition, the city clerk, Jessica White, has been appointed to work under him as the deputy city manager.
During the same meeting, the council authorized Lawrence to execute the contract for renovations to the bathrooms at Fulwood Park, which was an agenda item they intended to address. Mayor Julie Smith assured that both Lawrence and White will have their salaries adjusted appropriately to compensate for their additional duties. Expressing optimism in their ability to serve the city well, Mayor Smith thanked them for stepping into their new roles.
