The City of Tifton reached a settlement agreement with former City Manager Emily S. Beeman, who resigned on Thursday. The city agreed to treat her departure as if she had been terminated “without cause,” paying her salary through March 5, 2025, and covering her insurance and accrued vacation costs. Beeman acknowledged that the city provided more than what was required, and both parties released each other from any legal claims, with Beeman waiving any potential age discrimination charges, despite being only 35 years old. The City Council had placed Beeman on paid administrative leave three weeks earlier without explanation and accepted her resignation along with the settlement without comment. The agreement was later confirmed as public information under the Georgia Open Records Act. The settlement clarified that it did not imply any wrongdoing by either party. Mayor Julie B. Smith expressed well wishes for Beeman’s future endeavors.
